Hi

This is a new box new install v1.6 elastix 32bit

I tried to simply copy all of my recorded greetings from a previous freepbx box
over to the new elastix box in following directory: /var/lib/asterisk/sounds/custom

I reboot the system, and elastix/freepbx does not see the greetings, ok...
therefore I go to plan B.

I tried to Browse and upload each and every recording.
I get the following error:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[ERROR] SAVING RECORDING:
cp: cannot create regular file `/var/lib/asterisk/sounds/custom/BVP-Greeting.wav': Permission denied
Make sure you have entered a proper name

I looked at the security settings - they seem fine.

Any solutions ?

Thanks
Walt

It depends on who "simply" cp'd them, if root did it then asterisk probably doesn't have write permission.

It's all about permissions and ownership in linux.

httpd is run by the user asterisk,

man chown
man chmod

then

chown -R asterisk:asterisk /var/lib/asterisk/sounds
chmod -R +rw /var/lib/asterisk/sounds

hi

this is a fresh install of v1.6 32 bit

I am using the elastix interface, I rebooted, and still - it is not allowing me upload recordings.

How could this be after a fresh install ?

Thanks

You miss the point, it was a little more than a fresh install, you said

So I answered just now:-

did you in fact follow any of that?

Oh well, maybe one day . . .

hi

It works now - and thank you for the information...

Although I do not agree with the concept
it should not matter whether root, admin, or asterisk places recordings into the sounds directory. I even deleted all of the previously uploaded greetings, and when I used the Elastix GUI, it still did not upload the files. Something not right there !

Anyway thank you for your help
Walt
