    Yes!

In terms of having a native SMS Gateway interface/API, it does not...

However, there are plenty of services in each country that will allow you to sent an SMS via email.

This is where, in Freepbx, you would use the Pager entry in the Voicemail section of each extension. The purpose of this entry is a send a short message saying that a voicemail has been left and who it is from.

If you sign up with an SMS to email service, under each persons extension, you would have (an example only)
    0418555555@smsgateway.com.

The purpose of the additional address field for the pager/SMS is that it is a very short message with no attachments, and small enough for an SMS message.

Naturally, as a SMS you cannot include an attachment as this is not possible with SMS, and even if you could with MMS, the costs would be uneconomical.

The normal solution if you want to receive playable Voicemail messages is to use the email address to send to your mobile. Almost everyone receives a Mobile Carrier POP mail box with their phone, and many of the phones (windows based or not) can play the wav files.

    Hope this helps

Well, yeah you can send voicemail notifications via SMS. But to actually send texts from one phone to another, not that I know of. People have found ways, so you can search around on google.

If you are in USA and have T-Mobile, you can have voicemail notifications go to:
    7185551212@tmomail.net
Replace 7185551212 with your phone #. You can determine your SMS email address by composing an SMS and sending it to your email address rather than a phone number. Open up your email and you'll find your SMS address there.

    Good luck
