    Well.

Asterisk can work on realtime, but Freepbx is not ready to work why this fonctions.
With the realtime, you can modify every parameters without reloaded Asterisk.
Asterisk calling every parameters in a database (MySQL for example) or LDAP server instead of config files.
Every extensions are there into the database only for Asterisk.
Freepbx rewrite every config files after clicking on submit.
Freepbx have a own database, but not compatible with Asterisk realtime.

    Regards

Of course, you can find the database with MySQL (db = asterisk).
Into this DB you've lots of tables as 'users' for every sip extensions.
