    I need assitance setting up outbound faxing

    My setup;
    New Install
    Elastix 1.5.2
    FreePBX 2.5.1.5
    VoIP Provider Flowroute

    My PBX services are working which are basic inbound/outbound voice calls.

    Inbound faxing is working as well for 3 extensions I have setup to receive & send faxes

    Outbound Faxing Fails

    These are the steps I followed to setup the extensions;

    Step 1
    Created Virtual Fax extensions 1880, 1881 & 5086
    Step 2
    Created Generic IAX2 Extensions matching setting from Virtual Fax
    Fax handling for extensions created;
    Fax Extension

    Re:Outbound Faxing IAX2 Fails (SOLVED)

    Okay,

    I checked & re-checked all my settings and it appears that my outbound faxing problem was due to wrong setting on my part as follows;

    When creating Virtual fax extension I set Caller Name to "Name of My Company" which is wrong and caller ID Number to fax number (123) 123-1234.

    The only wrong setting was Name of My Company which as a "/" in it. I set the name to Fax1, Fax2, Fax3 etc. and I am now able to fax thru IAX2 Virtual Fax using Jhylafax 1.4.0

    I do notice that outbound faxing is not always reliable but I've only been testing for about 1 hour so I'll keep an eye on this.

    I believe you will find that Faxing over VOIP, sip or iax2, will never be 100% effective unless there is a true and complete T38 path to the PSTN, Asterisk 1.4 will pass it through and IAXmodem/hylafax support it, Your only remaining unknown is flowroute.

    A fuller explanation can be found at http://voip-info.org

    Re:Outbound Faxing IAX2 Fails (SOLVED)

    If not 100% reliable I will settle for 85-90% :)

    The setup I'm trying to replace is this;

    I had Win3k Server with 2 PCI modems to send & receive faxes.
    Flowrowte as the VoIP carrier
    FreePBX with SIP extension to PAP2T connected to Win3k Server
    Faxes were sent/received no issues 98% Reliable

    I now have moved Win3k Server to Virtual Machine
    PCI Modems are not supported in VMware Server 2.0 Free version I'm using
    Flowroute as the VoIP Carrier
    FreePBX with IAX2 extension "still testing"
    If IAX2 extension is 50% reliable I will add Serial Modem to Virtual Win3k Server
    Add PAP2T with SIP Extension and hope to get 98% Reliable

    Flowroute says they support T38

    I only have been using Elastix for about 2 weeks. I will look into hylafax to add Serial Modem with PSTN line just for sending.

    If have information on how to setup haylafax please let me know. I also see that some pleople recommend AvantFax.

    I appreciate your help!!

    Re:Outbound Faxing IAX2 Fails (SOLVED)

    Again I recommend a visit to http://voip-info.org, simply to understand the very demanding nature of T30 faxing.

    A serial modem behind a virtualised rs232 behind a virtualised windowbox running on VMWare, sounds like a recipe for disaster to me, YMMV.

    Both Elastix' fax module and Avantfax are just front-ends for hylafax, Hylafax has it's own forum. (as does Hylafax+, a fork of hylafax)

    I'd go with the T38 solution.

    Hylafax creates very complete logs of each fax session in the /var/spool/hylafax/log directory, investigate these to discover your current failures.
