I am really really a newbie! So I will ask that the seasoned folks here pardon my naivety.

    My question is simple.

What Operating System does Elastix run on?

I was reading through the Installing Instruction and no OS was mentioned. I believe it runs on Linux and if so what distro?

Running on CentOS...but don't worry, when you download Elastix ISO file, you will get this OS...just download, boot your PC from the disk and follow instruction on the screen.
But before all that, download and read "Elastix without tears"...

You really need to take a moment and read up before you go too much further! Elastix comes as an ISO that, when burned to disc and booted, will format your hard disk and install CentOS Linux (a RedHat Clone), along with Asterisk, FreePBX, the Elastix GUI, and assorted sundries.

This is a pretty standard distribution method, but you just need to be aware that the ISO will, if you follow through with it, overwrite the main hard disk on the PC you choose to experiment with, so be careful!

Good luck, whichever distro you choose.
