mp3 quality

Hello.
we have rather strange issue with the sound quality of our custom recordings (used in ivr's).
the files were uploaded as mp3 through freepbx, sometimes and only sometimes the recordings change their pitch to very slow or very high voice.
most of the times the recordings (through the ivr's..) are ok.
the hardware is ok and not overloaded (HP DL 360 G4 dual proc.)
any ideas where to start the investigation?

Ok problem solved...
converted mp3 to wav and now there no up n downs with the sound quality.
seems there's a bug asterisk 1.4 and mp3 (peacked it up at trixbox forums)
