I work on a small helpdesk with only 2 people. There's 3 extensions, 2 for me and the other guy and 1 that's a dummy extension called helpdesk which is never registered. Basically all that we want to happen with calls through asterisk is that they all go the voicemail of helpdesk, then we get emailed when a voicemail is left. This will change in the future hence me trying to get an extension to ring.

    I set up an inbound route for all calls to be diverted to voicemail (busy) for helpdesk but calls were going to voicemail (unavailable). Then I changed it to ring my extension but that doesn't work either - I don't have a problem making phone calls and calling my extension internally works without a problem.

    Below is what asterisk spits out when a call comes in and tries to ring my extension

    Code:
        -- Executing [s@from-sip-external:1] GotoIf("SIP/09156056-09ac6e18", "1?from-trunk||1"«») in new stack
        -- Goto (from-trunk,s,1)

    Is there something obvious that's stopping my extension from ringing?

    TIA

    I cant understand why you would set it up that way

    Best way would be a call queue with an anouncement every X amount of seconds or minutes presenting caller with ivr to select to leave a message for a call back

    Maybe I am reading what you have written wrong

Post edited by: DaveD, at: 2008/01/03 11:28

    Because we're only a small company and we don't want to pay huge amounts of money for our 1300 number. All calls are diverted to voicemail in the end anyway so I don't think there's any point having an IVR with 1 option to leave a message. But that's beside the point because all I'm trying to do at the moment is ring an extension which isn't working.

    In destination (inbound route), you can try to use busy, unavailable or no message in voicemail
