I am running CentOS 5.3 and I really need to upgrade PHP from 5.1.6 to 5.2 (or 5.2.10)

I tried to remove PHP with yum remove php however this will remove the below dependacies as well!

    --------
    elastix noarch 1.5.2-2.3 installed 11 M
    elastix-a2billing noarch 1.3.0-3 installed 16 M
    elastix-additionals noarch 1.5-3 installed 3.9 M
    elastix-mysqldbdata noarch 1.0-3 installed 1.2 M
    elastix-sugarcrm noarch 4.5.0d-3 installed 22 M
    elastix-vtigercrm noarch 5.0.3-6 installed 24 M
    freePBX noarch 2.5.1-12rc installed 28 M
    lcdproc i386 1:0.5.2-5 installed 420 k
    php-mcrypt i386 5.1.6-15.el5.centos.1 installed 32 k
    php-pear-Console-Getargs noarch 1.3.4-1.el5 installed 91 k
    php-pear-Date-Holidays noarch 0.20.1-1.el5 installed 232 k
    php-pear-XML-Parser noarch 1.2.8-1.el5 installed 65 k
    php-pear-XML-Serializer noarch 0.18.0-3.el5 installed 127 k
    ----------

Is there any way to upgrade PHP to 5.2 without breaking anything else?
The system is sitting on a remote data center so it will not be the easiest task to recover if something goes wrong :-/

    You help is much appreciated!

    Hi.

What happen when you try to enable any repositories Centos and make an : yum update php?

Or maybe try to take a rpm file with the version 5.2.10 and try to make :
    rpm -Uvh php...rpm !?

Try this from another install as on WMWare for example!
