Elastix Stress Test Problem

Hi,

We are setting up Elastix in a call center, so the main part of the system will be a queue consisting of about 70-100 agents and 200-300 callers. The design and implementation parts of the system are done, but in the test environment consisting of 2-3 agents and 4 telephone lines. For stress testing this system, we have used SIPp to generate incoming traffic from SIP on Elastix and the results have been OK. Here are my questions:

1. It seems that generating SIP traffic on the queue with 2-3 agents can't be a good test. Because resources are used when calls are handled, not when they are on queue hearing MOH. How can I simulate the 70-100 agents ? The simulation consists of logging into the queue and streaming some voice data on the channel to be realistic.

2. In the real environment, we won't use SIP for incoming traffic. 8-port E1 Zaptel cards will be used. Will there be any difference on the performance aspect ?

Hello navit.t

Redfone has plenty of call center customers doing 8x E1s worth of calls using our T1/E1 fonebridge hardware so scaling to 200-300 calls is very viable on a single server.

How to test, quick and dirty;

1.) TDM Side- Loop your 8 E1 device back to back; Port 1 to Port 4, Port 2 to Port 5, etc.
Setup ports 1-4 to emulate the telco (signaling=pri_net) and ports 5-8 as cpe (signaling=pri_cpe). So this will allow you to stress the TDM side of things by looping calls out one port and back into another.

2.) SIP Agent side- Use your Sipp install on a second machine to generate and receive calls.

Combined, this should allow you to exercise both the E1 TDM side as well as the SIP side. You could generate 100 outbound calls and answer them on Sipp. This would create 100 outbound TDM/Dahdi calls, 100 inbound TDM/Dahdi calls and 200 SIP channels and would be a pretty good representation of a live environment and what your system would expect to have to handle.
