With your new install of Elastix Stable 1.1 FreePBX 2.3 Branch, has the following installed, Core 2.3.1.0, FreePBX Framework 2.3.1.0 & System Dashboard 0.3.3.1

As you all are aware if you do a module update ot try to upgrade to the FreePBX 2.4 Branch, it ends up breaking some things, symlink error's , ARI, FOP, missing directories i.e _asterisk & recordings, not working ETC, This has been a real problem and has not been rectified & could be a real nightmare for a new user. I have been looking at different ways to overcome these issues and have finally put together this document and the required files to overcome all this and get this fantastic product working. In addition to this recently Adobe Flash Player released a new version V11 which has caused the FOP to keep flashing so I took this opportunity to address this issue too.

    FreePBX 2.3 Branch UPDATE

For those of you who want to stay with the 2.3 Branch you have to do the following.

    1. Login to your Elastix Server and at ROOT do the following.
    2. Download the freepbx2.3repair.tar.gz from here http://www.elastixconnection.com/index. ... &Itemid=72
    3. Untar the file you downloaded (tar -xvf freepbx2.3repair.tar.gz)
    4. change permission of file afterupdate.sh (chmod 755 afterupdate.sh)
    5. change permission of file beforeupdate.sh (chmod 755 beforeupdate.sh)
    6. Issue the following ./beforeupdate.sh
    7. Now login to your FreePBX web GUI & update the following modules.
    8. core 2.3.1.4
    9. FreePBX Framework 2.3.1.5
    10. System Dashboard 0.3.3.2
    11. Make sure you click on the orange bar at the top to confirm the changes
    12. Once again at ROOT issue the following command ./afterupdate.sh
    13. Once all the changes are made REBOOT your Elastix Server so the changes are applied.
    14. Once your Elastix server has REBOOTED login to your FreePBX web GUI and update all the modules you require.

    EDIT
I have edited step 13 & 14 as I want you to manually reboot your machine

    FreePBX 2.4 Branch UPDATE

For those of you who want to upgrade from the 2.3 Branch to the 2,4 Branch you have to do the following.

1.Login to your Elastix Server and at ROOT do the following.
    2.Download the freepbx2.4repair.tar.gz from here http://www.elastixconnection.com/index. ... &Itemid=72
3.Untar the file you downloaded (tar -xvf freepbx2.4repair.tar.gz)
    4. Change permission of file afterupdate2-4.sh (chmod 755 afterupdate2-4.sh)
    5. Change permission of file beforeupdate2-4.sh (chmod 755 beforeupdate2-4.sh)
    6. Issue the following ./beforeupdate2-4.sh
    7. Now login to your FreePBX web GUI & update the following modules.
    8. Click on the 2.4 Upgrade tool & follow the instructions CAREFULLY.
    9. First update the module FreePBX Framework 2.4.0.1
    10. Second update the following
    11. Core 2.4.0.3
    12. System Dashboard 2.4.0.2
    13. Feature Code Admin 2.4.0.2
    14. Make sure you click on the orange bar at the top to confirm the changes
    15. Once again at ROOT issue the following command ./afterupdate2-4.sh
    16. Once all the changes are made REBOOT your Elastix Server so the changes are applied.
    17. Once your Elastix server has REBOOTED login to your FreePBX web GUI and update all the modules you require.

    Flashing FOP

If you update FreePBX Framework 2.4.1.0 you do not need the Flashing FOP FIX

The recent release of Adobe Flash Player V11 had caused some grief with the Elastix/FreePBX FOP where all the Trunks, Extensions are flashing Green & Red, here is a script which will resolve this issue.

    1. Login to your Elastix Server and at ROOT do the following.
    2. Download the flashingfop.tar.gz from here http://www.elastixconnection.com/index. ... &Itemid=72
    3. Untar the file you downloaded (tar -xvf flashingfop.tar.gz)
    4. Change permission of file flashingfop.sh (chmod 755 flashingfop.sh)
    5. Issue the following ./ flashingfop.sh
    6. Your Elastix Server FOP will now be restarted automatically.
    7. Refresh your web browser catch

As always use this at your own risk.

    Good Luck

    Re:Elastix FreePBX 2.3 - 2.4 & Flashing FOP Fix

    Hi Danarff,

    I understood it this way:

You have 2 options to update/upgrade FreePBX:
a)you have FPBX 2.3 and wanna stick with it, just updating its modules, so follow Cleve´s FreePBX 2.3 instructions.
    b) you have FPBX 2.3 and wanna upgrade to 2.4 version, so follow Cleve´s FreePBX 2.4 instructions.

On both cases you have to download the apropriate scripts (beforeupdate....sh and afterupdate....sh) and run then in the following order
    1) beforeupdate (from Linux console)
    2) update/upgrade FreePBX from its GUI
    3) afterupdate (from Linux console)
Well, the real details are all in the Cleve´s step-by-step instructions

I apologize if I misunderstood it.

    Best regards,
    Luetz.

    Re:Elastix FreePBX 2.3 - 2.4 & Flashing FOP Fix

    Hi Luetz,

Thankyou for explaining this, I know it could be confusing a bit but if you read the instructions a couple of times you will realise what I have said.

The reason for me to have 2 separate fixes is that some people would like to stay with the 2.3 Branch and some people would like to move on to the 2.4 Branch. I hope all the New users who are trying the Elastix Product read this before installing. I am crazy about the Elastix Product and want it to go to great places.

    Enjoy!

    Hi Cleve,

After being playing around with Elastix 1.1 and unembedded FreePBX 2.4, for a few days now I ask: is there any good reason that I should keep using FreePBX, instead of using only Elastix GUI ?

    Regards,
    Luetz.

You can use either as you please but I prefer to configure the FreePBX stuff from within FreePBX GUI.

    Cheers

    Re:Elastix FreePBX 2.3 - 2.4 & Flashing FOP Fix

Thanks Cleve, but I´m sorry and hope this is the last time I bother you with this issue: do you think there is any important feature in FreePBX that one may miss if using only Elastix GUI ?
I´m counting on your nowadays and future vision about Elastix as a developer.

    Thank you again.

    Best regards,
    Luetz.

    Hi Luetzz,

Its no bother at all in answering any questions so feel free to ask. I always like using the FreePBX GUI, mabe because I have always used it, there a some tabs that are not available in the Elastix GUI, you can always compare the two.

    Cheers

    Hi Cleve

I followed your instructions for fixing the FOP problem in my elastix server and it worked fine.

    Thank you very much

P.D. This new version of elastix (1.1-17) changed a lot of things and as I see it, it has new config files.

    Waiting for your comments

I have to agree with this if you have Framework 2.4.1.0 you do not need the FOP FIX
