dummy question for phone jack connection

    Hi,
    I am reading all night to learn that pbx system,
    thanks to people makes these things free

    I got a very dummy question

    I can install software under windows make it run OK
    but where the hell you connect phone jack which is incoming call jack to computer that elastix will recognize the incoming calls...

    do you need a special card for that or internatl modem I can think of but I really cant see where we connect a phone jack to computer and elastix system...


    told you its a dummy question, dont laugh please

    Yes, you need an interface. The cheapest one (and the first) was an old Intel modem re-manufactured as the x100p. It now is only supported in older versions of Asterisk. You can buy a small card, or you can get SIP phone service with no card. The cheapest cards that work are OpenVOX, but they can be difficult to get working. Also, the changes needed to make some of them work can break kernel upgrades. Rhino and Sangnoma are more expensive, but plug and play. A cheap SIP provider is no up front cost.
