Hello everyone.
I got a new machine elastix 1.6 installed, but cant virtual fax in it.
Tried following Ben's elastix without gear.
I have another machine elastix 1.5 installed and the fax is up and running in it.
Here are the things which i have done to setup fax:
1. Created an IAX extension
2. disabled the fax in general settings
3. in inbound route settings, selected the new IAX extension as FAX extension, selected detection type as NVFAX ( tried zaptel too)
4. created new virtual fax with the above details
5. down is the CLI when tried to send the fax
-- Starting simple switch on 'DAHDI/8-1'
-- Executing [s@from-pstn:1] Set("DAHDI/8-1", "__FROM_DID=s") in new stack
-- Executing [s@from-pstn:2] Gosub("DAHDI/8-1", "app-blacklist-check|s|1") in new stack
-- Executing [s@app-blacklist-check:1] LookupBlacklist("DAHDI/8-1", "") in new stack
-- Executing [s@app-blacklist-check:2] GotoIf("DAHDI/8-1", "0?blacklisted") in new stack
-- Executing [s@app-blacklist-check:3] Return("DAHDI/8-1", "") in new stack
-- Executing [s@from-pstn:3] ExecIf("DAHDI/8-1", "1 |Set|CALLERID(name)=") in new stack
-- Executing [s@from-pstn:4] Set("DAHDI/8-1", "FAX_RX=10") in new stack
-- Executing [s@from-pstn:5] Set("DAHDI/8-1", "FAX_RX_EMAIL=fasilkaks@gmail.com") in new stack
-- Executing [s@from-pstn:6] Answer("DAHDI/8-1", "") in new stack
-- Executing [s@from-pstn:7] PlayTones("DAHDI/8-1", "ring") in new stack

-- Executing [h@from-pstn:1] NoOp("DAHDI/8-1", "Catch-All DID Match - Found h - You probably want a DID for this.") in new stack
-- Executing [h@from-pstn:2] Goto("DAHDI/8-1", "ext-did|s|1") in new stack

-- Executing [s@ext-did:5] Set("DAHDI/8-1", "FAX_RX_EMAIL=fasilkaks@gmail.com") in new stack
-- Executing [s@ext-did:6] Answer("DAHDI/8-1", "") in new stack
== Spawn extension (ext-did, s, 6) exited non-zero on 'DAHDI/8-1'
-- Hungup 'DAHDI/8-1'

Any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

If you call the fax iax extension number from another extension, can you hear fax tones?
Do you get something at the htlafax logs at /var/spool/hylafax/logs/c* ?

Hi,

I'm no expert on this but since nobody else has replied and my 1.6 setup works it might help.

If I understand correctly, in general settings you have set "Extension of fax machine for receiving faxes" to disabled. My configuration is set to "system".

There are two methods for receiving faxes in Elastix/Asterisk.

One is via nvfax which is part of the Asterisk build. Historically, great idea, but not reliable enough for most. This the faxing that is referred to in Freepbx.

The other is the implementation of Hylafax found in Elastix (and some other dists). This had the result of reasonably reliable faxing. The Fax tools in the Elastix GUI is utilising the Hylafax system.

So to answer your question, yes, set the Extension to receive the fax from system to DISABLED.

And in simple terms, for the ELastix/Hylafax system the basic steps are

1) set the "Extension to receive the fax" from system to DISABLED on general page
2) Setup an IAX extension
3) Setup a Virtual Fax and tell it to use this extension in the setup
4) Setup am Inbound route to receive the faxes and point it to the IAX extension that you setup
5) Ring the inbound route you setup, and you should hear a fax tone.

Optional steps
==============

1) Install Ramon's Avantfax rpm (3.1.6beta5 now I believe).
2) Once installed setup users and passwords - now they can use a browser to send faxes
3) Once that it is working, install Winprint Hylafax on the Windows desktops (assumption here)- other solutions exist for other desktops
4) Your Winprint will ask for a login and password, just provide the ones that you setup in Avantfax and now your users can send faxes as simply as printing via the Winprint Hylafax

(you can setup Winprint without Avantfax....but why not give your users choice, and setting the users in Avantfax is simpler than command line utils)

Good luck

Regards

Bob

Hi,

That's what I had and it worked OK. Not that we get many faxes any more so I can't really comment on the reliability.

Bob says set to disabled and he's far more experienced than me. I have now set my system to disabled and it works that way too.

How are those faxes going in? Analog line? Digital line? SIP provider?
The fax is coming in, but there is a problem with the phone line.
If it is an analog trunk, don't forget to run fxotune, and disable echo cancelling in the fax line.
If it's a SIP trunk, check if your network and QoS are working properly.

You should really read through this document, it is really good.

http://www.x100p.com/support/doc/novavo ... issues.pdf

It gives great tricks and advices to get analog lines's best quality, so your fax should work fine.

Later you will have to install nvfaxdetect, if you want fax detection to work properly, and not only in dahdi lines. I posted my script to install it somewhere in the forums, search for it.
If your lines are dedicated, and you don't need fax detection you can forget about nvfaxdetect.
