    Hi!

Testing this software out for use on 300 extensions and so far on 10 extensions its working like a breeze... There seems to be a issue with the recording feature though, cant record anything even on always mode... so far ive set
    1) an extension to record always for both record incomming and record outgoing
    2) changed Asterisk Dial command options: to trwW
    3) changed Asterisk Outbound Dial command options: to wW
    4) found 2 lines on some forum to make it beep when manual recording started (beep comes out, but not recording)
    5) Extension Recording Override is Disabled (tried with enabled but failed)
Below is a log, im not sure where to copy paste from so i copied a small part of it... pls let me know if u need a longer log..
    6) elastix version is 1.5.2-2

There does seem to be an issue with recording always ( it will not work )
However hitting *1 for record on demand works, so something screwed up from 1.4 beta to 1.5 branch , as 1.4 worked fine on both demand and always.

Don't mean to sound nasty, but it must be an option that you are choosing (or something in the YUM upgrade) that may be upsetting things. BenS has reported it, Dave you have, and now you Tom. Or possibly you have performed an Elastix Restore which has screwed up the rights...

I have installed quite a few 1.5.2 systems and recording is working on each of them. So all I can do is take one of these systems and provide you what I have and compare so we can narrow this down.

Now just to confirm what this system has (one of our test systems)

    1) Fresh new install of 1.5.2Mar31 iso
    2) NO Yum updates after ISO installed
    3) Freepbx Modules brought completely up to date
    4) Simple config e.g. default setup of extensions, 2 ring groups, voicemail on extensions
    5) On the general page
    [*]Dial Command Options: TtrwW
    [*]Outbound Dial Command options: TtwW
    [*]Extension Recording Override: disabled
[*]The other two fields under this are blank
On extension 201, I turned on both options to RECORD ALWAYS
Otherwise the rest of the system is default - nothing changed

First of all I did a call from extension 202 to 201.
Recording worked, showed up in the directory /var/spool/asterisk and in the Monitor GUI

Then I saw Tom was using a Queue or Ringgroup, so I changed the test to ring the ring group which had 201 in the ringgroup and I answered that phone. Again checked the recording directory and the Monitor GUI. All working perfectly.

For your perusal, I have included the important part of the log that occured on the second test that I ran, so that you can 1) see that it worked, 2) check your logs and compare what is not occurring (I have removed date and time as no value and shortens the line a little).

Only one other check at this point,

    Under /var/spool/asterisk
perform ls -l check that the rights are the same for the Monitor directory...

Hope this helps a little....But to resolve this, I need to know everything about your systems
    1) Have you performed a Freepbx restore
    2) Have you performed a Elastix restore
    3) Have you done a YUM update after the initial install of 1.5.2
    4) What was the original ISO you installed, the 1.5.2Mar31 or the previous 1.5.2Mar26?? (which has now been removed)
    5) Anything else???

I will probably be looking at Ben's system this evening, so early answers might help

This seems to be happening after a yum update

I have finally found a fix I think but need Ben to test on his end, just a matter of him answering his phone

    Dave,

Thanks, will try a YUM update next and see if it fails.....

How do you believe you have resolved it (have spoken to Ben on the phone)??

    Regards

Have spoken to Ben but my fix didn't work for him, but it did work for me
But will not publish the fix yet until I can confirm it works on another test box I have here. Have the march 31 iso loaded on a box but have not had time to check it yet.
The only thing Ben had different to mine was his IVR ,so will setup an IVR on test box to see if the issue is there as well.

    thx for replying bob!

Well i would prefer not to reformat it cos its being used in the office... :(

And i have done as you have said, except for the YUM thing... awhile back i was looking for operator phones and tried a yum install for trixbox. i got a failed message, so i tried again, failed and restarted the computer. I stopped trying to isntall trixbox after that... could that have been the cause of this issue?

    Regards,
    Tom

    Tom,
it is possible that this could have caused the issue, but can you offer a little more info on what you installed (e.g. Hudlite?? - would possibly have caused the issue).

In particular, for BenS and DaveD, I am performing Yum updates as I write this and will test to see if that impacts on the recording.

Will confirm test results once testing finished...

Ok have now completed a YUM upgrade

    performed a yum clean all
    performed a yum -y update

Note I have not enabled anything other than default respositories....

All updated, rebooted and then tested with a call to Ext 201....

    Checked recording afterwards....no issues....all working.....

Now is it possible that something is being loaded .e.g. Hudlite or something similar which is causing this issue.

    Anymore thoughts....

OK... I have reinstalled on another different machine - a Shuttle Pentium 4 3ghz with 1GB of memory.
I did yum update elastix.. and nothing else.
At this stage I have not made any changes to iax_general_custom or sip_general_custom.conf files or extensions_custom.conf or anything.
I added 2 extensions to test.
    Record always now worked.

I have since added my interoffice IAX trunks..... Record Always still works and also works between different trunk extensions.

Now I will do a backup and add a few more extensions and follow-me as well as my IVR and will test if it still works. Will report back.

Have added all other extensions and follow-me
    Have added several IVRs
    Have added Misc Destinations.
Have added extra MOH, announcements etc.

So far Recording (Always record) is still working.

What are the difference from my other installations?

    1. In ths installation I have not added A400 card as yet.
    2. I have not made any freePBX updates at all. I am only using the default installation as per 1.5 ISO.

I will now install the A400P FXO/FXS card and will report back.

    [Edit] - Update

Have installed A400P.... and all seems to be working. I was able to get recording to work fine... tried every which way and it is working.

The only thing I have not done is updating freePBX module online... otherwise my other installations are exactly the same. On all my other installations, I have updated freePBX but on this working installation I purposely did not update freePBX and the recording works.

Could the problem has been caused by updating freePBX?

I will update freePBX and will report back.

    [Edit]

Updated freePBX and recording still works.
The only thing that I didnt do to make this installation different from my other installation is:-

I Did not add the g729 codec in my sip_general_custom.conf and iax_general_custom.conf

after talking to Bob Fryer, I was informed that adding the codec in the conf file is a bad idea. It is better to add the codec through the GUI on every trunk rather than being lazy as I used to do in previous versions :)

Thanks to DaveD and Bob for being patient with me - Thanks Guys.

    Tom,

It looks like Ben & Dave had resolved their issues, possibly caused by manual changes to config files (I say possibly - I am basing this on my discussions with Ben).

Now before you change anything, can we start from basics with yourself....

    1) What ISO did you install... (filename that you burnt to disk as an image e.g. Elastix1.5.2-Mar09 etc
    2) Did you perform a Freepbx module update first or did you start adding extensions and then updated Freepbx
    3) Did you add any other files e.g. G729 Codecs manually to the Elastix system
    4) Did you make any manual modifications to files on the ELastix system (e.g. not via the Gui)
    5) Have you got the details on the general page as such
(go ahead and put these in if you havent got these in....)
    # Dial Command Options: TtrwW
    # Outbound Dial Command options: TtwW
    # Extension Recording Override: disabled
    # The other two fields under this are blank
    6) Have you done a YUM Update since the install of the Elastix ISO (Don't have to - just asking)

If we can get a few answers on your issue, we can see if it correlates to Ben and Daves issues..

    Regards

    Bob

Here is what I found with 2 iso images both are 31st march
1st image was downloaded on day of release and recording will not work on record always, but does work on record on demand
2nd image downloaded about 3 weeks later works on all recording out of the box with or without yum updates
All freepbx modules were updated before setting up anything and also tested doing them after a setup, no issues with 2nd iso image

    1. I got a corrupt download
    2. I got a bad burn of image
    3. could have got both

    Hi Bob,

    1)Elastix-1.5.2-stable-i386-bin-31mar2009.iso
2)add extensions first (i did not do any updates untill i tried installing trixbox hudlite)
3)i did when i googled this prob n they told about adding some lines which was a .template anyways so i don think it shd have affected anything
4)only used the gui to add lines to a file, which was a .template anyways so i don think it shd have affected anything
    5).1 Yes
.2 was wW, should i change to TtwW?
    .3 Yes
.4 after extension recording override is recording format, which is wav, next is recording location which is / and next is run after record which is blank
    6) Yes, when installing HUD, i was asked to do a YUM to install sometin (not sure what even yum is...) but got an error so restarted teh server.

    Tom,

if you have wW, that is fine, the Tt options are just for transfers...I was just being exact on what I had on the test system.

    The rest sounds fine......

Except for the HUDLITE Installation. I have never tried it on a 1.5.2 installation. It is possible that this may have caused an issue as I am aware it has the ability to record via its interface. I am wondering if this has damaged the routines for recording, or installed a replacement for Mixmonitor. These are real guesses, but my gut feel, especially with the major change in Zaptel functionality (Dahdi), is that Hudlite may have some issues on 1.5.2. Maybe someone that has installed it successfully could confirm or deny...

Also Dave's post is interesting, maybe there was an issue with the Mirror. Have you done a checksum on the image file, against what it should be???

    Regards

    Bob
