    Hi,

I'm not an specialist, but as far as I know, you can use Elastix in a company (commercially) but you can't sell the Elastix, because it's an open source set of programs.

What you can sell (in my opinion) it's the service of installation, customization, and so on.

Anyway probably Rafael or Ramoncio could make this thread more clear.

    Best regards

    It is release under GPLv2

    From /var/www/html/index.php
    Code:

    as for "selling" it

    http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/selling.html

    (which might surprise many)

But there are complications as whilst Elastix per se is all open source, there are various supplied code in other parts of the distribution that does include "binary blobs" without source code available. And some parts (mysql and SugarCRM for example) that is not GPL

    Thank for reply,

As I know some opensource can't sell the set of original program and also can't use on commercially, only use on personal. Yes, you right, many SI company to do service of installation charge.

I believe that if you follow each and every license agreement, you can do what what you want.
Personally and ethically I feel "re-branding" is a delicate area, if you "add value" then I have no problem charging for that "added value", change to artwork but don't remove the copyright notices and I doubt whether anyone will have a problem.

True but "ethics" is not only a county in the east of England.

You can do whatever you want,

If you remove a copywrite notice from a GPL'd piece of software you are in breach of the license. You expose yourself to a lawsuit from the owner, but better yet you get disapprobation from us honest people.

If you talk of trickybox etc. they really don't give a damn but I believe it's all karma, eventually the "truth will out".

    I dicko.

Do you think that it's possible for a company to suggest (with bill) some service as, to give a support, a training or some help around Elastix?

For example, if my company sell a service as a support around Elastix. It's right?

    Bon matin mon ami!

NON, Je suis un Celt, same as you!!

but of course you can, we ride these technologies, but we can make it work, that is "value added", of course we don't do it for free (at least I don't) we sell our knowledge and our time, (like cheap whores?), we don't pretend we wrote it. And for them, our clients, Alors! it "Just works"

You could try, but with what effect?, as far as I know there is no concept of copy-write in that part of the universe, I guess it's a cultural thing.
