Auto provisioning IP 550 on Elastix hace 1 Año, 4 Meses Karma: 0
We have a new system we just deployed. We are having problems auto-provisioning IP 550s like we usually do.

When we set the extension in endpoint manager, the sip.cfg file gets resized and causes the phones to go into a reboot loop. If I set them and then recopy the sip.cfg file over to the TFTP directory the phones will provision correctly.

What's wrong here? Am I using the wrong FW from Polycom? We've not had this issue on any of our others.

Here are the versions we're using.

Polycom: 3.2.6 ( we had the same problem with 3.2.2 and 3.2.3)

System:

Hello ahahum, in case you have not solved the issue, I can recommend to follow the configuration steps below to get your Polycom IP550 autoprovisioned with Elastix. We have confirmed this to work between a SoundPoint IP 550 and an Elastix 2.3 server (should actually work on any Elastix version):

Once inside the linux console of your Elastix server:
1. cd /tftpboot
2. wget "downloads.polycom.com/voice/voip/sp_ss_s...elease_sig.zip"
3. unzip spip_ssip_3_0_4_release_sig.zip

Through the menus in the SoundPoint IP550:
1. Press the 'SETUP' softkey shown near the bottom of the screen when the message "Welcome! # seconds until autoboot." is appearing (during the reboot loop)
2. Enter the password (456)
3. Configure your local network settings for the phone (take into consideration that the Elastix server and the IP550 must be in the same local subnet)
4. Select the option "Server Menu:". Once inside check for the configurations to be set as follows:
a) Server Type: TrivialFTP
b) Server Address: IP address of your Elastix server
c) Server User: leave empty
d) Server Password: leave empty
e) File TX Tries: 3
f) Retry Wait: 1
g) Prov.Method: Default
5. After exiting back to the main screen (where the message "Welcome! # seconds until autoboot." is shown) the phone will be able to autoboot properly

Using Elastix's Endpoint Configurator tool for autoprovisioning:
1. Go to PBX->Endpoint Configurator
2. Click on "Discover Endpoints in this Network" (again, the Elastix server and the IP550 must be in the same local subnetwork)
3. Check the checkbox under the 'Set' column on the row belonging to the IP550 phone you want to configure
4. Select "IP 550" in the dropdown menu box under the 'Model' column
5. Select the extension you want to autoprovision the phone with in the dropdown menu box under the 'Extension to assign' column
6. Click on the 'Set' button
7. Reboot your phone

After the phone has finished booting it will be already registered to the server with the extension selected in step 5 right above.

How do you go about doing this whenever the endpoints are not on the same local network?

Example: I host Company XYZ's Elastix Box in my data center and the company has 4 locations in which use different Internet Service Providers and the company phones are behind routers. I cannot use the "scan" feature from the endpoint manager to locate phones and have the system automatically create the config files.

Is this a matter of where I need to manually create the phone config files on the server and modify the actual settings within those files so when the phones check into the server they see their file and pull down the settings?

Elastix does not currently support the latest FreePBX version which has the endpoint manager built into it.

I found that I can update free pbx to version 2.7 without disturbing Elastix and then I can upload the freepbx endpoint manager module and control devices from the FreePBX side of things. I am going to try this and see if it all works well.

Any luck with that? I upgraded the ROM on my Polycom IP550 and now I am getting error messages about sip.cfg having pre-3.3.0 parameters and the line lights do not light up when the phone rings. I did the ROM upgrade from a seperate TFP server but when the phone boots and the prov server is set to Elastix it pulls down old stuff. I think I need to update TFTPBOOT but I just don't want to break anything.

I gave up on Elasitx and provisioning if the phones are on a different IP subnet than my server. The phone manager for the server if on the same IP subnet such as having the PBX located in the office will work just fine.
I tried a custom solution and the only thing that I can get to work is having two servers. I have my Elastix box then I have a VM running FreePBX/Endpoint Manager. The phones provisioning tftp string points to the IP of the FreePBX/Endpoint Manager server which has a custom profile where I modified my outbound proxy and sip server information so the phone downloads its config from one server but ultimately points is phone registration over to the Elastix box.
Elastix does not support any where close to the newest version of FreePBX and therefore is behind on the times which causes the provisioning problem. DO NOT update FreePBX behind the scenes in attempt to get the newest version of FreePBX that supports the Endpoint Manager as you WILL break everything

I am having this issue with a Polycom IP650 with Software
4.0.3.7562.

The link listed is dead.
Is there another link for the proper sip.cfg.
The phone works but has a Caution triangle in the corner of the screen.
The error "sip.cfg has pre_3.3.0 parameters shows on boot, disappears.
The caution icon is there

The link is not dead, be sure to copy the complete link (right-click copy) an not the abbreviation (with the ... ) shown in the forum comment. ie, the next part in the URL after downloads.polycom.com/voice/voip/ is:

sp_ss_sip/spip_ssip_3_0_4_release_sig.zip

and not:

sp_ss_s...elease_sig.zip
