The User’s manual is included in the web interface for Elastix. This wiki is for the development of future versions.
The System Info interface provides information about the current state of the hardware where the PBX resides. This section has two components: System Resources, and Hard Drives.
Here there is a graph where the number of simultaneous calls are shown as well as the used resources such as memory and CPU usage with respect to time.
CPU Info: Shows the type of processor that is installed in the PBX
Uptime: The time elapsed since the PBX server was last restarted
CPU usage: CPU resources being used shown graphically
Memory usage: Main memory being used shown graphically
Swap usage: SWAP memory being used shown graphically
In this section you will find a graph where the percentage of maximum storage space in the hard drive that has been used to date is shown.
Partition name: The name of the partition in the hard drive. Example:”hda2”
Capacity: The maximum storage capacity for the installed hard drive
Usage: The percentage of the maximum storage capacity of the hard drive that has been used already
Mount point: The name of the point in the filesystem where the partition is to be mounted
The “Network” option under the “System” menu allows you to visualize and configure the server/PBX network parameters in a single place.
Within this option we have two sections:
Figure 1
This has to do with the general network parameters for the server/PBX.
| Host | Server name, i.e. pbx.sudomain.com |
| Default Gateway | IP address of the Default Gateway |
| Primary DNS | IP address of the Primary DNS |
| Secondary DNS | IP address of the Secondary DNS |
In order to change any of these parameteres, you need to click on “Edit Network Parameters”
This section displays a list of network interfaces available to the server with the following information:
Figure 2
| Device | Name assigned by the operating system to this network interface. |
| Type | Type of IP address associated with the network interface. It can be STATIC when the IP address is fixed or DHCP when the IP address is obtained automatically when the system is powered up. In order to use the DHCP option there must be a DHCP server in your network. |
| IP | IP address assigned to this network interface. |
| Mask | Network Mask assigned to this network interface. |
| MAC Address | Physical address of the network interface. |
| HW Info | Additional information about the network interface. |
| Status | Physical status of the network interface, i.e. whether it’s connected or not. |
In order to change the parameters
The “User Management” option allows you to create and modify all users that will have access to the Elastix Web Interface. There are 3 types (or groups) of users as follows:
Administrator
Operator
Telephone User
Each one of these groups represents different levels of access to the Elastix Web Interfase. These levels are associated with a set of menus to which a given user will have access. The various access permissions to the menus are better illustrated in the following table:
| Menu | Administrator | Operator | Telephone User |
| System |
| System Info | Yes | Yes | No |
| PBX Configuration | Yes | No | No |
| Network | Yes | No | No |
| User Management | Yes | No | No |
| Shutdown | Yes | No | No |
| Operator Panel |
| Flash Operator Panel | Yes | Yes | No |
| Voicemails |
| Asterisk Recording Interface | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| Fax |
| Virtual Fax List | Yes | Yes | No |
| New Virtual Fax | Yes | No | No |

This option allows you to shutdown or restart the PBX. When you choose either option, the system will ask you to confirm the desire to execute it.
The Operator Panel displays the Extensions, Queues and Trunks sections to monitor the usage of phone lines, extensions and queues. Each one of these elements is shown in different colors, each with its own meaning:
Yellow: Extension associated with a queue – see Figure 1.
Green: Extension or phone line available (not busy) – see Figure 1.
Red: Extension or phone line unavailable (busy) – see Figure 1.
In addition, each busy extension shows the external phone number or internal extension with which it is holding a conversation at the moment – see Extension 215 talking with Extension 217 in Figure 1.
Figure 1
When placing the mouse over a phone line in the Operator Panel, the line is highlighted as well as the extension that is currently using it – see Figure 2.
The Panel also allows users to execute actions by previously authenticating via password. This password is the same one that was configured initially for Elastix.
Figure 2
It is possible to transfer calls by clicking on the telephone icon displayed on the phone line through which a call was received, and dragging it towards the telephone icon of the extension to which we want to transfer the call – see Figure 3

The “Fax” menu allows you to manage virtual fax devices. Through this interface, a virtual device that provides a fax signal can be created.
This device works with the IAX protocol so you will also have to configure an IAX extension in the freePBX interface before creating the virtual fax device.
The virtual fax device will get connected through the 127.0.0.1 IP because it resides in the PBX server. Also, it will get authenticated with the use of an “extension number” and an “IAX secret” just like a physical IAX device would. (NB: use only numbers for the IAX secret as it seems that letters are not supported by the virtual fax module yet)
Once the IAX extension has been configured in the freePBX interface and the virtual fax device has been created, the latter will try to establish a connection with the PBX server and be ready to receive faxes from that IAX extension.
When the virtual fax device receives a fax, it will send it to a pre-configured recipient via email. The recipient will receive the fax as a PDF attachment to an email message.

Remember: Before creating a new virtual fax device you must have configured the corresponding IAX extension from the freePBX interface.
The web form to create new virtual fax devices contains the following fields:
Virtual Fax Name: This is the Name that will be used to easily identify the device. Example: “Marketing Department Fax”
Destination Email: Email address for the user that will receive faxes in this virtual fax device
Fax Extension (IAX): The IAX extension that was pre-configured in freePBX
Secret (IAX): The “IAX secret” that was pre-configured in freePBX
Caller ID Name: The name that will be associated with the calling extension. Example: “Marketing, PaloSanto Solutions”
Caller ID Number: The telephone number from which you want to pretend to have sent the fax

To be able to record a message to be sent out at a scheduled time, you first need to assign an extension to the Elastix user (admin in most cases). Do that in the System menu, User Management, Users.
Once that is done, you can record messages from your extension phone. Give the file a name, click the Record button and Elastix will call you. Once you hang up, the file is saved and shows up in the list of recordings under Calendar when you create a new entry....
