Elastix is an appliance software that integrates the best tools available for Asterisk-based PBXs into a single, easy-to-use interface. It also adds its own set of utilities and allows for the creation of third party modules to make it the best software package available for open source telephony.
The goals of Elastix are reliability, modularity and ease-of-use. These characteristics added to the strong reporting capabilities make it the best choice for implementing an Asterisk-based PBX.
Community Members of the Month – September 2008: The Chat Heroes
Wednesday, 01 October 2008
The Elastix IRC channel is an excellent source of live support that our community has. Maybe some day you had a technical problems with Elastix and it was solve by the great support on our chat channel. The community has this excellent source of support thanks to people like Jeff Kephart (n3glv) , Bryan Walters (GameGamer43) and the other volunteers at voipcoop.org . Last month they help us log the chat so that the support that is going on there could be accessible as documentation for the community . That is why we believe that they should have a public recognition as community members of the month. Congratulations GameGamer43, n3glv and voipcoop. Keep up the great job.
GameGamer43 and n3glv are members of voipcoop.org an online community dedicated to promotion of communications technologies for hobby , residential and commercial use. If you want to know more about Voipcop.org, please read this short history.
If you are member of the Elastix community and haven't participate on the irc chat we invite you to do so. It is good to be in touch with other Elastix users in real time. If you are starting with Elastix our irc channel is a great source of support.
Elastix would be present as participant or expositor on several important free software events in the next months.
Astricon is the most important event worldwide related to Asterisk. This year Astricon would take place in Glendale, Arizona – USA from 23 to 25 of September. In this event are going to participate the most important projects related to Asterisk, and Elastix could not be the exception. José Luis Landivar would be at Astricon.
Latinoware is organized for the fifth consecutive year in Foz de Iguazu. It is one of the most important free software events of Brazil and Latin America where exponents of the free software movement of the region would participate. Elastix being a free software project leaded by Latin Americans would be present with the speech “Elastix Freedom to Communicate” by Rafael Bonifaz. Latinoware would take place from October 30 to November 1.
FESOLI is one of the most important free software events of Perú and this year it would take place the 8 of November in Lima. Elastix is sponsor of FESOLI and would participate with the speech “Elastix Freedom to Communicate” by Rafael Bonifaz.
For Elastix free software is really important and we believe on supporting this events. Dear Elastix Community we hope we can met you on person in one of this events.
Among the new features we would like to mention that the Asterisk Log module is ready. This module will allow you to have more specific and complete reports than available in the previous version.
In this version, Roundcube also has improvements. It is now possible for mail users to change their own passwords without asking the administrator. You no longer have to share your passwords with the Elastix administrator. Now the users have control and the administrator less responsibility. The integration with Postfix is better with no more email senders of the following type:
This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
The calendar module, a useful tool for reminders and wake up calls in hotels, has now been integrated with the schedule module. Now you can use your calendar to make phone calls using numbers from your schedule, and not only to local extensions.
The new distribution also includes some tools that will be fully functional in the near future. Spamassassin is now part of Elastix and in the next version it will have an administrative interface. We are working on the integration of Mailman mailing lists with Elastix, and in the future there will be other new surprises.
For the complete list of changes, please refer to the changelog .
The Elastix team has decided to publicly recognize the members of the community that each month contribute the most. The success of a free software project depends on it's community and that is why we think this recognition is needed.
During August 2008, the person who contributed the most within the community was Franck Danard (danardf) from France. Frank was not just the person who participated the most in the forums during the month of August 2008, but thanks to him the forum categories have been translated into French. This has allowed our community to grow beyond language barriers. In addition to all of this, Franck moderates the French forums and is the administrator of the French Elastix mailing list.
Congratulations, Frank, and thanks for your support to the Elastix Community.
