Elastix is an appliance software that integrates the best tools available for Asterisk-based PBXs into a single, easy-to-use interface. It also adds its own set of utilities and allows for the creation of third party modules to make it the best software package available for open source telephony.
The goals of Elastix are reliability, modularity and ease-of-use. These characteristics added to the strong reporting capabilities make it the best choice for implementing an Asterisk-based PBX.
Elastix has grown as a project to levels that we did not foresee. This growth and the need of companies to hire highly trained engineers with knowledge of Elastix and its surroundings has made us realize the importance of offering a solid training program.
Starting in February, 2009 Elastix will be offering official training courses throughout the world in Spanish and coming soon in English. This training program has been developed for folks new to Open Source VoIP in general, engineers already doing install/troubleshooting of these systems, people coming from the analog telephony industry who want to make the switch to VoIP, and also for those who simply want to know more about Elastix. This is a rigorous program that will bring you up to speed with the latest advances in VoIP technology through hands-on training and real information from well-knowned field-tested instructors.
The Elastix Official Training Program includes the testing required to obtain the Elastix Official Certified Engineer certification which guarantees the level of training that the holder of the certificate has gone through.
The following is a schedule of the upcoming trainings being offered:
For the his contributions since the first days of the Elastix project we would like to make a public recognition to Ramón Lozano (ramoncio) for his great support to our project. Ramón is the kind of person who give great support in the forums, but also propose new ideas and some code to the community and project. For example he share some shell scripts that would be useful to add external application to the web interface of Elastix . Also thanks to ramoncio, now we have an official rpm for avantfax .
Congratulations ramoncio and thanks for your support to the community..
Dear community friends on behalf in name of Elastix team we like to wish you a happy new year. Year 2008 was a very successful for our project thanks to the great work done by our community.
We can not say good bye to year 2008 without looking backward to the the great things that happened in the year. In January we start the year asking help from the community to prioritize the functionalities that Elastix 1.0 should have . That feedback was really useful when we released 1.0 on April.
The most important event in February was the native support for high availability using Fonebridge solution from Redfone . This was done thanks to the cooperation between Redfone and Palosanto Solutions. One of the good things about our project is that we work very close with the hardware vendors.
Have you ever wanted to add an additional feature to your Elastix but you do not know how to do it? Thanks to

that created a new module that allows you to create new modules now it is really easy to extend Elastix functionality. To try it out all you need to do is download it and installed throw “module load” in the Elastix web interface.
Once you installed the Developer module, a new module can be created throw the web interface by selecting a name for it, the fields that it should have and in witch menu should it be accessible. Once you do this, then there is going to be a directory tree under /var/www/html/modules/module_id that uses the MVC2 architecture with the needed files for the module ready for you to program the logic.
This module is in version 1.0 beta2 and is compatible with any Elastix equal or newer to version 1.2. To give you a better support we just created a new forum and we are going to contribute with documentation for the use of this module in the wiki.
This month we would like to make public our appreciation to Bob Fryer for his excellent contributions to our community, that among others we would like to mention the following:
Saleh -> Community Member of the Month - October 2008
Friday, 14 November 2008
Saleh is one of the oldest active members of the Elastix community and since then he had been a great support for our community. Probably a lot of us some receive help from Saleh when we had a problem and because of that right now Saleh is the user with the greatest karma in our forums . The Elastix project has benefited from Saleh contribution and that is why we are making this recognition as community member of the month.
