Elastix is an appliance software that integrates the best tools available for Asterisk-based PBXs into a single, easy-to-use interface. It also adds its own set of utilities and allows for the creation of third party modules to make it the best software package available for open source telephony.
The goals of Elastix are reliability, modularity and ease-of-use. These characteristics added to the strong reporting capabilities make it the best choice for implementing an Asterisk-based PBX.
Dear Elastix community friends, we are proud to announce that Elastix version 1.5 is now available for download in its 32-bit and 64-bit ISO versions. This release took a bit longer than normal because we have made some important improvements. We now use DAHDI instead of Zaptel which brings better support for telephony drivers. Here is a list of
some of the changes:
This release is the first one to have gone through our beta testers
scrutiny using our beta testers mailing list . Thanks to this group of community members we have solved bugs
ranging from the small and annoying to the serious and critical ones.
Thanks go out to all our beta testers because without their work we
could not have the even more stable version of Elastix that we are
making available today. We would like to give our special thanks to the
following hardworking members of our community: Fernando Villares, Bob
Fryer, Tzafrir Cohen, Saleh Madi and Frank Danard.

This month we would like to make public our appreciation to Juan José Aparicio for his work promoting Elastix in the Spanish-speaking world. He has wrote two articles about Elastix in the popular free software Latin American magazine Tuxinfo.
In Tuxinfo magazine 11, Juan José wrote a detailed article about the installation and basic configuration of Elastix. Things like setting up trunks, outbound routes, extensions and more are covered in this article. In Tuxinfo 13 he wrote about how to configure an IVR with Elastix. This article should be read by anyone who is willing to setup a basic IVR.
Congratulations Juan José for your work and thank you for supporting the Elastix project.
Elastix has grown as a project to levels that we did not foresee. This growth and the need of companies to hire highly trained engineers with knowledge of Elastix and its surroundings has made us realize the importance of offering a solid training program.
Starting in February, 2009 Elastix will be offering official training courses throughout the world in Spanish and coming soon in English. This training program has been developed for folks new to Open Source VoIP in general, engineers already doing install/troubleshooting of these systems, people coming from the analog telephony industry who want to make the switch to VoIP, and also for those who simply want to know more about Elastix. This is a rigorous program that will bring you up to speed with the latest advances in VoIP technology through hands-on training and real information from well-knowned field-tested instructors.
The Elastix Official Training Program includes the testing required to obtain the Elastix Official Certified Engineer certification which guarantees the level of training that the holder of the certificate has gone through.
The following is a schedule of the upcoming trainings being offered:
